About Us

Janine photo.jpg

Janine Strachan is the director of Green Design Solutions and expert in Sustainable housing and Planning.

Her knowledge in these two disciplines is used to service clients who may be looking for a sea or tree change, empty nesters longing to downsize or those wanting to develop their property with sustainable inclusions and require a planning permit to realise their dreams.

As a leader in sustainable housing and building technology, Janine draws from her extensive experience in teaching Building Thermally Efficient Structures and Environmental Management at RMIT and was recognised as RMITs Early Career Teacher of the Year 2017. Janine also draws from her time in managing the Housing Industry Association’s national GreenSmart program.

An example of Janine’s work is her own comfortable, healthy and sustainable home, in which she designed. She focused on passive solar design principles and material selection to reduce the operational and embodied energy in the home. Janine has opened her home as part of Sustainable House Day for a number of years now so she can demonstrate sustainable design features.

Janine holds a Masters in Environment and Planning, a Bachelor in Environmental Management and qualifications in Building and Construction and as a Livable Housing Assessor.

Janine also has a passion for alternative housing solutions and is in the process of building a highly insulated  Tiny House prototype that she will be opening in the first half of 2018 for tours and Tiny House accommodation.

Her knowledge in building and the environment has allowed us to plan for a home that ticks off all the boxes.
